David Battey, President and Founder
As President and Founder of YVC, David oversees programming and is a nationally recognized leader in the community service and youth development fields. As a political economy major at Williams College, he developed the initial YVC concept as part of his senior thesis. Using the thesis as a guide, he established the YVC in Greater Kansas City, sponsored by the local United Way. After operating the program for two years, David was hired by Youth Service America to begin national replication of the YVC model with seed funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which helped him eventually launch YVC as an independent nonprofit. In his free time, David enjoys traveling. He has visited more than 100 countries, but his favorite places are those off the beaten path such as Barrow, Alaska; Afghanistan; Cuba; North Korea; and rural Kansas. Tracy Hale, Chief Executive Officer
As CEO, Tracy works closely with David, the Board of Directors and staff to support the mission and vision of YVC. She supervises the YVC staff and their responsibilities, including affiliate relations and support, financial activities, grants, marketing, and public relations. She is responsible for evaluating services and activities provided by YVC in relation to goals and objectives. Tracy is passionate about the mission of YVC and has a strong desire to assist our YVC affiliates to ensure sustained programs and growth. Before joining the YVC team, Tracy served seven years as Vice President for Miller Management, which serves over 400 nonprofit organizations. For 11 years prior to that she held various management positions at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Tracy holds a B.S. in International Business from Northwest Missouri State University. Leah Boal, Director of Affiliate Programming
Leah works to support and strengthen YVC affiliates across the network through training, resource development, and ongoing personalized support. She loves how YVC impacts youth and communities and is thrilled to take part in that as well. Leah is a graduate of Kansas State University and Manhattan Christian College with a B.S. in Music Education and Bible. Throughout her life, Leah has been involved in many service opportunities locally and internationally which has fueled her passion. Sydney Collins, Affiliate Program Specialist
Sydney supports affiliates across the network as they work to provide quality YVC programming in their communities. She is also a champion for growing the YVC network by connecting with and supporting individuals and organizations interested in starting a YVC program in their city. Sydney is also responsible for grant administration to track grant applications and reports on funding YVC Headquarters gives to affiliates. Sydney is from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and has her degree in Communication Studies from University of Missouri-Kansas City. Chelan David, Director of Development
As Director of Development, Chelan is responsible for ensuring sustained funding of the national organization by developing and implementing the YVC Headquarters fundraising strategy. Chelan volunteers frequently and is passionate about inspiring youth to undertake a lifetime commitment to service. Prior to joining YVC, Chelan worked at Unvision, the global Spanish-language television network. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.S. in Journalism. A huge sports fan, Chelan is an avid supporter of the Jayhawks and Royals. He enjoys jogging, traveling, reading, attending concerts, and spending time with his two daughters. Christine Landherr, AmeriCorps VISTA Community Outreach Coordinator
As a VISTA Community Outreach Coordinator, Christine will work to build the capacity of the YVC by developing and implementing HQ-hosted YVC programs for low-income and other young people throughout Kansas and Missouri. Christine’s passion for community outreach derives from her upbringing abroad. Having lived in 9 countries, she spent much of her childhood volunteering and working to build sustainable projects in her local communities. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from Edge Hill University and a M.A. in International Relations from Queen Mary, University of London. Amanda Moser, Director of Program Impact
As Director of Program Impact, Amanda supports innovation and sustainability in the YVC network. She supervises the YVC AmeriCorps VISTA team and is responsible for bringing the YVC mission and model to more communities in the US and Canada through new programming, community engagement, and program support. Amanda focuses on program outcomes to assess, identify, and adapt YVC’s strategy for expansion. Amanda is from Kirksville, Missouri, and holds a Master in Strategic Leadership from Stephens College and a B.A. in Creative Writing from Missouri State University. Kaylee Neumann, Office Manager and Youth Advisor
Kaylee supports the Headquarters team through office operations and ensuring organizational effectiveness and efficiency. She also empowers youth volunteers through YVC’s International Youth Advisory Board and Brand Ambassador Program. Kaylee’s passion for leading others to volunteer stems from domestic and international volunteer trips where she loved working with children and youth. She holds a B.A. in International Studies from Wichita State University and is originally from Saint Joseph, Missouri. Jarrin Paryzek, AmeriCorps VISTA Marketing Coordinator
Jarrin joined Youth Volunteer Corps in 2019 as an AmeriCorps Community Outreach Coordinator. He has worked for nonprofit organizations since he was 17 years old, making stops at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Benton County and Youth Bridge Inc in Arkansas. His work with these organizations gave him an appreciation for working with youth of all ages. In his current role, he is able to continue helping youth make their communities a better place and create long-term relationships with nonprofits where they live. Mia Richardson, AmeriCorps VISTA Community Outreach Coordinator
As a VISTA Community Outreach Coordinator, Mia is focused on building the capacity of YVC to develop & implement sustainable programming and service learning opportunities at YVC sites that are hosted by Headquarters. Prior to joining the YVC team, she taught English and coordinated youth leadership clubs across North Macedonia as a Peace Corps volunteer. A Kansas City native, she graduated from William Jewell College with a B.A. in Institutions and Policy. Mia found her own passion for community service early on, through her experiences in competitive debate. Sydney Slavin, Program Impact Coordinator
As Program Impact Coordinator, Sydney’s goal is to support, expand, and sustain HQ-hosted YVC programming. This includes conducting community engagement, supervising the YVC AmeriCorps VISTA team, and working with in-school programming. Sydney’s professional relationship with YVC began in 2017 as an AmeriCorps VISTA Fund Development Coordinator. After her term ended, she joined the corporate world for a few months, only to find herself joining the YVC’s team ever growing and supportive team once again. As an AmeriCorps VISTA Marketing Coordinator, Hannah supports HQ-Hosted sites. She focuses on consistent branding and messaging for their websites, social media accounts, print and digital marketing assets, and digital newsletters. Hannah has worked for multiple nonprofits, including Growing Futures Early Education Center, the Mandela Washington Fellowship, and the Manhattan Alliance for Peace and Justice. As Director of Marketing and Communications, AnnMarie provides marketing support to YVCHQ and affiliates across North America. AnnMarie has a varied nonprofit career in Kansas City, crossing many missions and industries, and has a deep commitment to improving communities. She believes in empowering and engaging people to reach their full potential. When not at YVC, she enjoys spending time with her dogs and friends.
