Our Team

Youth Volunteer Corps, headquartered in Kansas City (YVCHQ), provides service-learning opportunities to youth through a network of affiliates across North America. Affiliates are hosted by a credible nonprofit organization, by YVC Headquarters directly, or are independent YVC programs. Check out our full list of affiliates and program leaders.

David Battey, President & Founder

David is a nationally recognized leader in the community service and youth development fields. As a political economy major at Williams College, he developed the initial YVC concept as part of his senior thesis. Using the thesis as a guide, he established the YVC in Greater Kansas City, sponsored by the local United Way. After operating the program for two years, David was hired by Youth Service America to begin national replication of the YVC model with seed funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which helped him eventually launch YVC as an independent nonprofit. In his free time, David enjoys traveling. He has visited more than 100 countries, but his favorite places are those off the beaten path such as Barrow, Alaska; Afghanistan; Cuba; North Korea; and rural Kansas.
