Tracy Hale, Chief Executive Officer
Tracy develops the overall organizational strategy for YVC. She directs affiliate relations and support, financial activities, fund development, marketing, and public relations. Tracy is passionate about the mission of YVC and has a strong desire to assist our YVC affiliates to ensure sustained programs and growth. Before joining the YVC team, Tracy served seven years as Vice President for Miller Management, which serves over 400 nonprofit organizations. For 11 years prior to that she held various management positions at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Tracy holds a B.S. in International Business from Northwest Missouri State University. Steve Rock, Vice President Development
Steve Rock joined the YVC team in 2022 and leads the organization’s fundraising and development efforts. As a father of three children, he was drawn to the cause because of its mission of empowering youth, and he has spent years doing just that as a coach, a “big” in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and elsewhere. Steve, who graduated from Kansas State University with degrees in journalism and English, started his career at The Kansas City Star. More recently, he spent 12 years with the Arthritis Foundation, serving as Senior Executive Director. In his free time, Steve loves nothing more than spending time with his family – wife, three kids, and two rescue mutts that monopolize the bed – and also enjoys running, reading, and playing racquetball. Betsy Calmer, Director of Marketing & Communications
Betsy is uniquely wired to see copywriting as more than words; she cares about the data that shows how effective those words are at motivating someone to take action. She’s passionate about planning engaging content strategies for a diverse, global audience who engages with YVC through mediums like email, blogs, and social media with the goal of building engagement and growing the audience. Based at YVC Headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri, Betsy is originally from Jefferson City, Missouri, where she spent most of her marketing and communications career in the non-profit sector. Leah Boal, Director of Affiliate Programming
Leah oversees all affiliate programming in the YVC network. She works to support and strengthen YVC affiliates through training, resource development, and ongoing personalized support. She loves how YVC impacts youth and communities and is thrilled to take part in that as well. Leah is a graduate of Kansas State University and Manhattan Christian College with a B.S. in Music Education and Bible. Throughout her life, Leah has been involved in many service opportunities locally and internationally which has fueled her passion. Sarah Miller, Community Growth & Programs Coordinator
With a love for growing programs that serve youth and the community, Sarah joined YVC in 2021 and is excited to become a Community Growth and Programs Coordinator. Sarah began her career in Texas by building out-of-school educational and service programs for youth in museums and libraries. Sarah is excited to support the YVC network by developing new affiliates and relationships to expand the YVC mission. Sarah is originally from Houston, Texas, and holds a B.A. in History and an M.A. in Museum Studies from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Miranda Mendez, Program Impact Manager
Miranda is a visionary, passionate about engaging and empowering youth with transformative learning and leadership opportunities through service that not only positively impacts our communities but also the hearts and minds of those who serve. Miranda is responsible for launching, supporting, expanding, and funding YVC programs hosted by Youth Volunteer Corps Headquarters. Miranda comes to YVC with 15 years of experience in educational leadership and networks and is grateful to link arms with the YVC family. The only thing Miranda loves more than empowering youth is loving and empowering her own children to grow spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally to serve in the ways they are created to do. Miranda stays active in her children’s sporting and school activities, church, and cheering on “the crowd” to live their best life. Pam Oberdiek, Accounting & HR Manager
Pam is responsible for the accounting and human resource functions at the YVC Headquarters. As an active volunteer herself, Pam believes that everyone has something to give, and is thrilled to be supporting the mission of YVC. Prior to joining the YVC team, Pam had a successful 35-year career at Hallmark Cards, where she held positions of increasing responsibility working in divisions such as operations, finance, marketing, supply chain and most recently the retail service organization. Pam holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Saint Mary, and an MBA from Rockhurst University. Pam and her husband, Randy, are avid supporters of the University of Missouri. Bradley Hoffman, Program Director
Bradley joined the YVC team as Program Director for the greater Saint Louis area in 2022. He graduated from the University of Missouri – Kansas City with a bachelor’s degree in English. Since then, Bradley has taught middle school and worked in youth services for the St. Louis Public Library in teen and early childhood programming and outreach. Bradley brings a sense of humor, understanding, and high energy to everything he does. He is thrilled to be a part of YVC’s mission. Bradley is most excited to collaborate with St. Louis’s young leaders to coordinate volunteer projects that are meaningful to them and propel their community forward. Danielle Small, Program Director
Danielle joined the YVCKC team as Program Director in 2020. She graduated from Baker University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She is a strong believer of the YVC mission and feels blessed to be a part of an amazing team to continue serving youth and the community. Before YVC, Danielle spent six years working as Site Director with elementary-aged youth within the Kansas City Public Schools and Hickman Schools to provide a well-organized before/after-school program. Jeremiah Ortiz, Program Director
Jeremiah is on mission to serve empowerment through relationships. He has served as a youth pastor in Valley Center, KS since 2019. Additionally, he works for Union Rescue Mission of Wichita where he walks alongside people experiencing homelessness, poverty, addictions and other life changes. His “why” is to leverage his influence to elevate the confidence of students and adults through community, encouragement, accountability, and joy. Jeremiah will tell you that each day is an opportunity to create an amazing experience for someone. Rayna Gammo, Program Director
Rayna is a current student and former YVC Volunteer. She is currently studying undergraduate psychology and neuroscience at Detroit’s Wayne State University. Before starting college, Rayna was an active volunteer with YVC of Plymouth for four years, where she attended “Summer of Service” and served on the Youth Advisory Board. Throughout the years, along with her past year serving the community of Detroit, she has gained extensive knowledge of community needs, local agencies, resources, and appropriate fundraising practices. Her work has allowed her to develop a passion for getting youth involved in their communities and inspiring a lifetime of service. In addition, she enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with family in her free time. Sandy Anker, Program Director
Sandy joined the YVC family in 2019. She is currently the Program Director for Joplin, MO and Springfield, MO. Along with her own love of volunteering, she brings her experience of parenting five teenagers and aspires to nurture a passion in youth for community service through YVC. Sandy has a B.S. in Secondary Education and an M.A. in Professional Writing, and has taught all ages professionally and as a volunteer. Terrell McCombs, Program Director
Terrell is a professional and ambitious law enforcement officer with 6+ years of experience committed to the community and the police force. He is excited to join the YVC team in planning and executing effective community outreach and youth empowerment strategies and programs in the Columbia, South Carolina, area. David Battey, Founder
David is a nationally recognized leader in the community service and youth development fields. As a political economy major at Williams College, he developed the initial YVC concept as part of his senior thesis. Using the thesis as a guide, he established the YVC in Greater Kansas City, sponsored by the local United Way. After operating the program for two years, David was hired by Youth Service America to begin national replication of the YVC model with seed funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which helped him eventually launch YVC as an independent nonprofit. In his free time, David enjoys traveling. He has visited more than 100 countries, but his favorite places are those off the beaten path such as Barrow, Alaska; Afghanistan; Cuba; North Korea; and rural Kansas.
