YVC Launches in Portland, OR

Welcome Portland!

Join us in welcoming the newest Youth Volunteer Corps program: Portland, OR!

YVC of Portland is hosted by Camp Fire Columbia. We’re especially excited about this new program since it’s a re-launch of a strong YVC program that ran from 1998 to 2011. Youth had a huge impact on the Portland community during that time, and we can’t wait to see all that they accomplish now through this new program!

A huge thanks to Aliza, a former Youth Volunteer with YVC, who wrote a grant proposal to launch a YVC in Portland for her Grant Writing for Nonprofits college course at Portland State University. After writing the proposal, she gave it to Camp Fire Columbia hoping they might be able to restart the program.

“I wanted there to be more service-learning opportunities for youth where they can work together as a team,” Aliza says. “I know a lot of people who have had negative first experiences volunteering, and I had such a positive time volunteering with YVC when I was younger. I want others to have that as well.”

Thanks to Aliza’s passion and Camp Fire Columbia’s diligence and hard work, the program is launching this fall. Welcome YVC of Portland!
